Bobolink, Dipper and Hawk

Swainson's Hawk
American Dipper

Magpie harassing cat

Western Kingbird

Calf toying with Cowbirds

Drove over to Potter Lane in Wasatch County to try and locate Bobolinks. Not much success there, but we moved a field over and found more than a half-dozen  very active individuals, but not close enough for photos. As we were leaving, we saw that a large group of birders from the GSL birding festival looking for the same species. Most of them looked bored and we commented that it was too large a group for enjoyable birding. Our next stop was Soldier Hollow. Shelly wanted to check out the terrain for her upcoming race. We found a trail that runs along the west side of Deer Creek and hiked it about a mile and a quarter. Saw Mute Swans in the lake and had a nice Swainson's Hawk flyover. Our last stop was Jordanelle. It was very quiet, but we ran into a fisherwoman who had seen a gray bird near the bridge just below the dam. She described how she had observed the bird bringing nesting material to a structure that looked like a "beehive." We were able to locate the nest and a pair of Dippers. We'll check out there progress in a couple of weeks when Shelly races.
