| Robin with Chick |
With a wedding and at a half-dozen "kids camp" groups, Red Butte was chaotic. Not sure what the kids are doing there, because it looks like the stuff they could do at any city park. Shelly and I visited the Garden last night to look for Hummers and shoot a Robin on her nest. It was too late for Hummers and the Robin's nest is located in a bad spot for evening photography. I decided I would return with my video camera in tow and get some of the nesting behaviour exhibited by both the female who keeps the chicks (two, in this case) warm, and the male who provides food for both the mother and the young. I haven't yet reviewed the video, but I think I shot some pretty good footage. After I left the Robin's nest area, I stumbled upon a pair or Blue-gray Gnatchatchers that were foraging in the shrubs south of the Rose Garden. After snapping a few, back-lit shots, I headed over to the spot where I've seen the Hummers. However, it was total chaos with the kids and wedding party and I decided to pack it in. As I was leaving I got a brief glimpse of a pair of Western Tanagers. I assumed they were headed to the grove of serviceberry, but I could not relocate them.
