Blue Jay Yay!

Smithfield Blue Jay photo by Ryan Driscol
Shelly and I spent the better part of a day looking for a reported Blue Jay at the Smithfield Cemetery. A pari of Crows provided a hint to the location of the bird as we marched up and down the conifer studded rows of monuments, stopping to peer into each tree for a glimpse of the bird. Eventually we heard an unfamiliar call coming from the area where the Crows were spending most of their time. We confirmed the calls were those of the Jay after listening to some recordings on the itouch. Locating the the bird proved a bit more difficult. We split up and walked in the general area until I found the bird high in a conifer where he disappeared in the  branches. Eventually a pair of Crows ran him off of the tree and he flew out of the cemetery. We were unable to relocate the bird.
