Green-tailed Towhee

Thousands of these were seen along the trail.

Cute little bugger, but his voice was more like
"get out of my forest or i'll come down and gouge your eyes out!"

I told you to go away!
Hiked Lamb's Canyon today hoping to see or hear the Ruffed Grouse I encountered a few weeks ago. No luck, but I did get a good look at a Green-tailed Towhee and was surprised to see it at such high(8,000 ft.) elevation. On the way down I ran into a a pair of Mountain Chickadee feeding a pair of youngsters. Seen briefly were a Western Wood Pee Wee and, due to it's size, a Hairy Woodpecker. While the terrain and thick foliage made it difficult to view and photograph birds, I had no problem with butterflies. Thousands of them were found along the trail.
